Workout Overview

Stimulus

In part 1, we have the test week of our 20 rep cycle. Athletes should use the data they gathered last week to try for true 20 rep on the lift. Part 2, While we want to complete these tall box jumps as quickly as possible, we have to keep in mind that 3 devil's press are coming at the top of every minute and pace ourselves on the box accordingly.

Box Jumps | To complete this workout we need to be able to do at least 6 box jumps each minute to start.

The One | Teaching Focus

Shoulders directly over the bar

Last week in the sumo deadlift we focused on the knees tracking over the toes.  This week let's focus on athletes pulling the chest up to keep the shoulders directly over the bar.  Use the cue “i want to read your shirt” to encourage them to pull the chest up.

Look For

  • Box Jump | Look for athletes to fully extend as they jump to the box.  Encourage athletes to “jump as high as you can” not just jump to get on the box.
  • Devils Press | Athletes need to be able to complete these reps unbroken and within 0:30 each time.  Therefore loading needs to be appropriate.  If athletes start to struggle, encourage them to scale the weight.
